"Van Gogh"
"Self Portrait", 1889

This 'Self Portrait' is much a representation of what Van
Gogh reflected how he portrayed himself. The way his features are aligned with
the slightest emotion, seemed that he was just a simple man.
I really like the simplicity of emotion through this painting.
As if everything he wanted to say is in one picture. He seemed to be a man who
kept his emotions tucked away. Not that it is all that bad but sort to say, he
may have struggled with himself more than we could understand. I just make that
assumption from the neutrality of the painting, to the neutrality look on his
face, and then to the details in this portrait. Maybe because detail was what
he craved and valued the most.
Yet again, it can just be a painting of him admiring himself
really. So who’s too really say the purpose of ones own portrait?
